4 bedroom (all ensuite) holiday home, accommodating 8 people.
The house itself is bright, airy and spacious, with the living room presenting a wonderful seascape, complete with passing dhows and fishing boats. The TV room features full DSTV and there is an office overlooking the pool, should you need to work between high tide swims and low tide beach-walks.
Mealtime is a special treat: magical sundowners on the terrace, gazing at Tanzania over the water, are the perfect prelude to watching night fall from within the ample dining area. A substantial kitchen and laundry room ensure that all mod cons are available, within abundant space. A stand-by generator ensures constant power.
The air-conditioned Master bedroom boasts a King-sized double bed, large en-suite bathroom and walk-in cupboard. A second bedroom also has air conditioning. Like the third and fourth bedrooms, it is equipped with twin beds and en suite bathrooms. All have ceiling fans and mosquito nets.
Shimoni looks out directly on the Pemba Channel and Wasini island, with only a walled garden and large pool in between us and the sea.
The house shares its name with our neighbouring fishing village, located in the Pemba Channel in southern Kenya, close to the Tanzanian border. This is home the best snorkelling in the country, with easy access to deep sea fishing, diving and dhow trips to the Mpingute islands (for more snorkelling adventures).
We’re about an hour’s drive from Diani (and can arrange your transfer for you). On arrival, you will be looked after by your host, who makes the beds and keeps everything spotless, even serving food. If you want a professional cook, we can provide a chef as an extra option, who will be happy to cook local cuisine as well as international dishes. Shopping is a joy, since some of the world’s most succulent seafood is literally brought to your door, as fishermen drop by with the catch of the day. An array of just-caught fish is joined by delicious delicacies, from lobster to crab, and prawns to squid.
We’ve always loved Shimoni, because it offers the best of both worlds. It overlooks timeless seas, yet is equipped for modern living. It’s remote and peaceful, yet large enough for families and guests. The place is self-contained, peaceful and intimate, yet we are alongside an un-intrusive hotel which has a restaurant and bar.
