Kuruwitu – North Coast of Mombasa

HOLIDAY HOME:  “SHWARI HOUSE”  is a luxury beach house with pool set in 3- acres of private gardens at Kuruwitu on the Kenyan coast north of Mombasa.

The infinity pool looks out across the Indian Ocean and the community-run Marine Protected Area right in front of the house. At certain times of the year, migrating Humpback whales can be seen from the veranda, or you might be lucky and see turtles hatching on the protected beach. However, all year round the panoramic view of the sea is spectacular.

The space:

The house comfortably sleeps 10-people, and has five ensuite bedrooms, four doubles and one twin.
Three bedrooms are on the ground floor (two doubles and a twin room) and two double rooms on the first floor. There is a huge covered roof terrace which is the perfect spot for some yoga or just afternoon relaxing.

Our chef Sharif does all the cooking. He has a versatile repertoire but specializes in dishes made with locally caught fish. He is happy to step aside if you want to cook, but most people let him do what he does best. By the way, if you like chilli, ask him to make you his secret recipe chilli sauce.
There is a night guard, and house help, Wycliff, who keeps the house clean and tidy.

The whole house, pool, and garden are for your use only.

Interaction with guests:

Sharif will be your main point of contact once the booking has been made. However, you are welcome to speak to us or email if you need anything.

Other things to note:

Kuruwitu Conservation and Welfare Association (KCWA) run the marine protected area and were recognized with the United Nations Equator Prize in 2017.
Reef walks or guided snorkelling can be booked through the KCWA. There is also a glass-bottomed boat which can be hired for dry snorkelling, or turtle or dolphin watching. Alternatively, the KCWA can organize a tour of the local village or a visit to the village women’s group and shop. Some guests have enjoyed having a traditionally cooked meal in the village.
We have a number of beauty services available from reflexology, massage, pedicures and manicures. Sharif can organise this on request.
